The favor concept works well in management. As a manager, I would do favors all of the time for bosses, peers and subordinates.

Sometimes they led to return favors and sometimes not. But when I asked for a favor, I usually got one and responded with gratitude. The approach increased a lot of good will all around.

I eventually learned that giving favors needs to be unconditional. The benefits are unpredictable but ultimately rewarding for everyone.
