Some bias has a brief lifespan. I pity the employee who makes a major mistake at the end of the year and near evaluation time rather than at the beginning.

Managers of course are more likely to forget the early mistake and get over their anger or frustration. A mistake near the time of the evaluation can swing it in a negative direction and make it more demaging to the employee’s career.
