“Dry January” is a good way for anyone to test the impact of alcohol on their mental health.

My wife and I have practiced it for more than 15 years, and it does make a difference, starting at about the second or third week. If the impact is dramatic, it’s a good sign that alcohol is a major negative. Otherwise, it’s an important reminder about moderation for anyone who continues drinking.
