2 Critical Personality Traits for Solo Business Owners
Unrelenting self-reliance and self-discipline increase the odds of success
The success of a one-person business depends heavily on choosing and correctly implementing the right idea. Success also depends heavily on two personality traits: self-reliance and self-discipline.
They are common terms in human life. But the owner of a one-person business needs them much more than the average employee of a larger business. Fortunately, these traits that come naturally to many people can become exceptional qualities in anyone who nurtures them.
Self-reliance is crucial in a cash-strapped solo business because the owner can rarely rely on anyone else for help. If cash is in short supply, especially in the early years of starting up, the owner must know or learn how to get everything done. “I don’t know how to do it” is rarely an option.
Self-discipline is a ruthless dedication to using every available minute to build, maintain and grow the business. It also is a ruthless dedication to doing what the owner needs to do rather than what he or she wants to do. For example, a web designer who loves design and hates marketing must put marketing first until the business has enough customers to thrive.
